Being fit after 50… how Pilates can help future proof your life

Life is busy.

Looking after the home, children, (maybe parents too), still working, volunteering. Walking the dog, preparing meals, keeping up with friends, organising social gatherings, birthdays, food shop… you can see how people can forget or not find the time to invest in themselves, to get to that class or use a video to keep mobile, active, flexible and strong.

But if you pause for a moment and think about your life and future, how hard you have worked, surely you deserve to be able to enjoy your future pain free, with mobility, to be fit to be able to travel and ENJOY the life that lies ahead of you…. “I work out for the future me”…

“being fit after 50 is a bigger status symbol than owning and expensive car”

I believe the secret is to find a sport/ activity that you enjoy. The motivation to stick to it will be there if you actual enjoy what you do and its not a chore. I once read that 80% of members of a gym never go..

Pilates is super popular especially right now as so many people can access it and immediately benefit. A mat is all you need. Feel your flexibility and mobility improve, enjoy that relief as you open up and stretch your shoulders, become stronger and leave each session feeling an inch taller! For that session you completely focus on the Pilates.

A moment purely for YOU.

Pilates also feeds into other sports. I want you to have variety and ENJOY what you do. Today i’ve enjoyed running with a PT client, riding in the woods on my horse, and i’m still to do a dog walk. Yes I engage my core and need my balance to be good, especially when i’m riding - thank you Pilates!

How does Pilates help you to be fit after 50?

  • highly accessible

  • enjoyable, social, immediate Feel good factor

  • improves BALANCE

  • keeps you/ improves your flexibility and mobility of joints

  • improves POSTURE

  • enables you to be strong with functional movements (roll ups, squats, ok squats aren’t Pilates but you get them with me)

  • strong core, supports your spine

  • improved mental health, having spent a moment in the present, purely focussing on what your body needs to be doing

Look out for video’s focussing on the classic Pilates moves. Mr J Pilates himself was practicing and teaching Pilates well into his 80’s and said ‘the whole world should be doing Pilates they would be happier”

Remember to make time to INVEST IN YOU. Your future you is depending on you.
