Pilates for men.. and why its so good!
The Fitwoman family is growing.
I’ve noticed a growing number of men coming to my classes and although in some cases it may be the result of gentle encouragement from home, I can see the instant positive results, the lessening of pain, improved posture, core strength and lack of money being spent on Chiropractors!!
Us women have enjoyed the benefits of Pilates and how know much better we feel for a class, so how and why is Pilates so good for men?..
Here goes..
Pilates is GREAT for men! Joseph Pilates (a man) trained boxers, soldiers and dancers and we all know that Pilates can be extremely challenging. Many top sportsman include Pilates within their training program: Beckham, Tiger woods, Andy Murray, Cristiano Ronaldo, Conor McGregor.
They are not doing it to “be flexible” they’re doing it to hit harder, run faster, move better and stay injury free.
For us less professional sporting people how can it help?
Builds core power = giving you stability when lifting (deadlifts etc), running and cycling efficiency and lower back and injury prevention.
Many of my male clients suffer with a sore or weaker lower back, probably the result or not helped by years of sitting at a desk..
Enhances posture and reduces pain. By strengthening the muscles that align the spine and pelvis Pilates helps correct slouching, lower back pain and tight hips. Walk tall and own that room!!
improves flexibility - men often have tight hamstrings from sports and rounded shoulders from desk/ driving
supports joint health - Pilates strengthens the small stabilizer muscles around the shoulders, knees, hips and spine.. which will help protect the joints during heavy lifting, sports and aging.
Enhances athletic performance. Improve your swing and achieve a better and more powerful rotation. Better sprinting efficiency and better body control and balance!
OK so we ALL enjoy these wonderful benefits, but this blog is a big shout out to all the MEN who venture into a Pilates class and leave feeling all the better for it. Thank you for coming to the class.. please continue your Pilates journey and we will put up with your banter in the meantime! It’a great to have you there too.
